How to Replace Your Garmin Vívoactive 4 Screen at Home?

Officially launched in September 2019, the Garmin Vívoactive 4 series stands as one of Garmin's classic GPS sports smartwatches. The series comprises two models—the Vívoactive 4 (45mm) and the Vívoactive 4S (40mm)—to cater to different size preferences; the Vívoactive 4 features a 1.3-inch display, while the Vívoactive 4S utilizes a 1.1-inch screen.

Although production of this series has ceased, it remains an iconic model in Garmin's history, maintaining a steady user base in both the repair and second-hand markets. This article outlines the process for replacing the Garmin Vívoactive 4 screen; the instructions are also applicable to screen replacement for the Garmin Vívoactive 4S.

Tools Needed for Garmin Vívoactive 4 Screen Repair

You don't need a complex screwdriver set for this job. To successfully perform a Garmin Vívoactive 4 screen disassembly, you only need a thin plastic pry tool.

Step 1: Remove the Garmin Vívoactive 4 Band

Use your fingernail or the tip of a pry tool to engage the metal pin on the Garmin Vívoactive 4 band.

Push the pin down to release the band from the lugs.

Remove the band. Note: The band will not release unless the pin is fully depressed.

Step 2: Heat the Garmin Vívoactive 4 Screen Edges

Use a heat gun to gently soften the adhesive around the Garmin Vívoactive 4 display. This usually takes 5–10 minutes.

⚠️Caution to avoid overheating the internal components.

Step 3: Separate the Garmin Vívoactive 4 Screen from the Housing

Carefully insert a thin pry tool into the seam between the Garmin Vívoactive 4 LCD screen and the watch casing.

⚠️Caution : A delicate ribbon cable connects the display to the board—pry gently to avoid tearing it.

Step 4: Disconnect the motherboard from the Garmin Vivoactive 4 screen.

Once the screen is loose, carefully disconnect the two ribbon cables from the mainboard by prying the connectors upward.

After replacing the old screen with your new Garmin Vívoactive 4 replacement display, perform a quick functionality test before applying fresh waterproof adhesive to seal the watch.

Conclusion

Replacing a Garmin Vívoactive 4 screen is a manageable DIY repair. By following these steps, you can restore your watch to like-new condition. For more tutorials on repairing Garmin wearable displays, check out our other guides:
